I love this saying. I know it’s a phrase used in sobriety and personal development circles, but it’s one we can all learn from.
Here’s an example: the day starts badly, my confidence is shaky, I’m tempted to cancel a meeting, I avoid a phone call or a difficult conversation – and what happens? Absolutely nothing.
Here’s another version of the day: it begins badly but I put on my work armor and plunge in. I sit in the meeting, take the phone call, and have the uncomfortable conversation. What happens? Well, something already did. I made the effort. I took action. I put myself in the flow of things; I created opportunity.
If you want good things to happen or change to come, you need to show the world that you exist. That’s accomplished by participating in the action whether you feel like it or not.
So suit up, show up—and if you’re a complaining sort, it might also be wise to occasionally shut up
