Want It? Fight For It

by Carol Quinn

A 3Lunches coachee achieved a milestone over the weekend. At our lunch almost six months ago, she had a laundry list of professional ideas for her future. As we talked, it became clear that her main priority was becoming a mixed martial arts fighter. When she was younger, she’d competed in Karate, but she felt that she hadn’t fulfilled her potential. This was unfinished business for her. She wanted to prove to herself that she could compete at a world-class level and win.

It was clear that fighting was her passion, and we designed her work life to support her goal. In response, she put her head down and trained. She was tremendously focused and everything else in her life took a backseat to preparing for her first MMA fight.

Last Saturday night she had her first amateur bout and won by unanimous decision. Watching her dynamic intensity and ferocity in the cage was amazing to behold. It made me realize that when you really want something and train hard for it, you can get it. The trick is to absolutely know what it is you want to accomplish.

Can you identify clearly what it is that you want? Are you willing to fight for it?
