A friend and colleague, Simon Mainwaring, has recently written a book about corporate responsibility titled “We First,” I look forward to reading it as Simon is a compelling speaker with a holistic, organic approach to business.

The amazing thing, however, is the Simon has donated 10% of the profits of his book to GirlUp.org, a campaign of the United nations Foundation that is dedicated to to focus American girls on the plight of their sisters throughout the world. It’s a wonderful effort championed by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan,  Dr. Lisa Masterson and Ivanka Trump.

But as the father of two daughters, Simon Mainwaring was moved to support this wonderfully empowering effort.

When you’re in the position to support a cause, do you do it? Do you have any stories like this to share?

Hi Carol, Great to see the post from Simon and also check out your blog. I’ll be picking up a copy of “We First” as well.

I’m in the process of launching a new social good company called eGood. Our goal is to better connect communities, companies and causes. We’ll be at the Social Good Summit this fall and planning to launch at SXSW next March.

    Cheers!

    Zack

You’re welcome, Simon. I think donating a portion of the profits from the sale of your book is laudable. I so look forward to reading “We First” and writing a review!

Carol – thanks so much for the offer to share here and on the fan page. I’m really hoping to get some good entries for non-profits and charities (although I do have it open to anyone. nnIt is open worldwide…..as long as the winner as a mailing address. :-) nnhttp://ow.ly/4NnEZ

Thanks so much Carol and you’re spot on. When it came to thinking what role I could play through the book to support a cause I thought hard about what was most meaningful in my life. With two daughters and a wife who is a teacher, I believe women and education (along with clean water) are three of the critical ways we rebuild our world. And Girl Up is so great because it connects young girls here with their counterparts overseas so my kids can grow up know that we all have a contributory role to play. Thank you so much for the post and support of Girl Up. Simon

I’ve supported a number of causes I’ve seen on Twitter – primarily ones for children but some for pets as well. I haven’t had my own campaign, per se, unless you count me trying to encourage others to enter a non-profit in a contest I am running starting tomorrow.
